Guillen completed his rehab assignment hitting .357 with a pair of homers in four games...

RHP J.J. PUTZ allowed no earned runs in 12 consecutive games July 18-August 26 (18 IP, 12 H, 1 R, 5 BB, 15 SO), notching seven saves...

SAN ANTONIO... LHP TRAVIS BLACKLEY became the first Texas League pitcher to record 17 wins in a season since Jackson's Jeff Reardon accomplished the feat in 1978 with a win over Tulsa August 24. Blackley, named the league's Pitcher of the Year, went 8-0 with a 2.71 ERA in 12 games July 1-August 24 (76.1 IP, 66 H, 28 R, 23 ER, 24 BB, 69 SO). With one more win, Blackley could become the first 18-game winner in 30 years, when Rick Sawyer of San Antonio notched 18 wins in 1973...

LHP BOBBY MADRITSCH struck out 10 batters (7.2 IP, 6 H, 4 R) in a 4-3 loss at Tulsa August 26...

The Missions' staff ERA through August 27 was a league-leading 3.03 - 81 points lower than the next closest team...

3B JUSTIN LEONE, the league-leader in runs (97), on-base percentage (.399) and extra-base hits (64) through August 27, went 2-for-3 with a double, homer and two RBI on August 27 in an 11-1 win at Tulsa. Leone took home Player of the Year honors and manager Dave Brundage took home top honors as well....

INLAND EMPIRE... RHP ELVIS PEREZ threw eight scoreless innings (3 H, 1 BB, 9 SO) to win his third straight start in a 4-0 victory over Lancaster August 22...

LHP RYAN KETCHNER, coming of his first professional shutout, fanned eight and allowed three runs in six frames for his second win in as many starts August 26. Through August 27, the 21-year-old was leading the loop with 151 strikeouts. Ketchner was named to the league's 2003 All-Star team. The other 66er named to the squad was OF GREG JACOBS, who led the league in most offensive categories before receiving a promotion to Class AA in late June...

WISCONSIN... 1B BRENTON METHENY capped a five-run bottom of the ninth inning with an RBI single to lift the Timber Rattlers to a 6-5 victory over Burlington August 24. SS MICHAEL GARCIAPARRA and OF JON NELSON each produced a two-run single during the big inning. Nelson was second in the league in doubles (36) and extra-base hits (54) while ranking third in RBI (89) through August 27...

RHP RANDALL FRYE allowed two hits over six scoreless innings in an 8-1 win over the Canadians August 22. Frye fanned eight, including the side in both the second and sixth frames. OF SAMUEL BRADFORD JR. went 3-for-3 with a double, a solo homer and three runs scored in the win...

LHP THOMAS OLDHAM tossed six scoreless innings (4 H, 3 BB, 5 SO) in a 4-1 win against Salem-Keizer August 24....
