RHP RYAN VOGELSONG fanned 12 in notching his first career shutout as the Sounds blanked New Orleans, 3-0, to clinch the East Division title August 26. After allowing three hits and a walk through the first 3 2/3 innings, Vogelsong struck out the next six batters to start a string of 13 consecutive outs. He fanned eight of 10 men at one point. The 26-year-old has worked 17 2/3 scoreless innings, striking out 20 and walking just five, over his last three home starts...

OF JOHN BARNES (.321, 12 HR, 65 RBI) was selected to the All-PCL team....

ALTOONA... C J.R. HOUSE finished with four RBI in a 9-6 victory over Bowie August 22. House ripped a run-scoring single in the top of the third inning, doubled in a run in the seventh to tie the game at 5-5 and singled in two more runs in the eighth to make the score 9-5. 2B JOSE CASTILLO chipped in with three hits and two RBI, scoring twice...

RHP IAN OQUENDO pitched seven scoreless innings in Altoona's 4-0 win over Reading August 27. Oquendo yielded just three hits, struck out four and walked two to extend his winning streak to five games, dating back to his last outing in the Class A Carolina League. He also brought his ERA over 30 2/3 innings in the Eastern League down to 2.05 through August 27. Overall, Oquendo is 14-3 with a 3.06 ERA and 142 strikeouts in 147 innings between the two levels. On the season, he has yielded two earned runs or less in 17 of his 25 starts this season, including his last four...

LHP CLINT CHRYSLER was torched for nine runs, nine hits and one walk over 1 2/3 innings in a no-decision August 24....

LYNCHBURG... RHP BRYAN BULLINGTON won three straight starts August 16-27 (19 IP, 24 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 9 SO). Bullington, the first overall pick in last year's draft, has gone 8-4 with a 3.05 ERA in 17 starts with the club this season. Between Lynchburg and Hickory of the South Atlantic League, Bullington has gone 13-5 with a 2.52 ERA in his first pro season...

WILLIAMSPORT... OF NYJER MORGAN came around to score he go-ahead run on a wild pitch in the top of the ninth inning in a 3-2 victory over Hudson Valley August 24. RHP YOANN TORREALBA struck out 11 batters over seven scoreless innings but left without a decision in the victory...

LHP PAUL MAHOLM allowed just two hits over 7 2/3 scoreless innings to beat Staten Island, 1-0, August 27. Maholm, the Pirates' first-round pick in this year's draft, struck out six and improved to 2-1 with a 1.44 ERA in seven starts....
