Arkansas
1998-99 record
23-11, 9-7 SEC (lost to Iowa in NCAA second round)
Coach
Nolan Richardson, 337-129 (14 years at Arkansas); 456-166 overall
Projected starting lineup
G Chris Walker, 6-5, Sr.
Former walk-on started 17 games last year and averaged 7 points per game, scoring and leadership will have to increase.

G Brandon Dean, 6-1, So.
Louisiana native has 39-inch vertical leap and showed signs of potential with 20 points vs. Auburn last year.

G Sergerio Gipson, 6-4, So.
The lanky left-hander is the Razorbacks' top returning scorer at 7.4 points per game.

F Brandon Davis, 6-4, Jr.
Progress was slowed by foot injury that limited him to just five SEC games last year.

F Dionisio Gomez, 6-8, So.
Took 41 course hours last year to become eligible for this season, tallest player on Hogs' roster.

Top guy off the bench
G T.J. Cleveland, 6-1 So.
Propensity for making the big defensive play will earn him playing time.
Key Newcomer
G Charles Tatum, 5-10, Midland, Texas.
Richardson has compared this guy to former Razorback Kareem Reid and that's high praise.
Key Games
vs. Wake Forest (Dec. 20). The Hogs should have an unblemished record when they enter this one. How about when they leave?
at Auburn (Feb. 5), Previous meeting was a barn-burner won by Arkansas 104-88.
at Kentucky (Feb. 26). These two teams don't rule the SEC like they once did, but they still put on quite a show.
Outlook
Richardson was stunned when he learned last week that his team was picked second in the SEC West. "And us this bad," he said. "That's respect, baby, that's respect." After what the Razorbacks have accomplished since joining the league in 1991-92, they deserve some respect. However, that doesn't change the fact that the tallest player on their roster is 6-8. The tallest Arkansas player with any collegiate experience is 6-5. Richardson said his team will have to make up for it inevitable rebounding disadvantage in other areas of the game. "This is probably the most inexperienced basketball team I have ever coached," he said. "It's probably also the quickest team I've ever coached." Arkansas will do a lot of pressing and pushing this season. Lack of depth caused by three early defections -- Jason Jennings (transfer), Chris Jefferies (transfer) and Justin Hankins (left school).
