Indiana
1998-99 record
23-11, 9-7 Big Ten, lost to St. John’s in NCAA South second round
Coach
Bob Knight, 641-231 (28 years at Indiana), 743-281 overall (34 years)
Projected starting lineup
F Larry Richardson, 6-8, Jr.
Averaged 4.5 points in 13.7 minutes per game last season.

F Lynn Washington, 6-7, Sr.
Should know Knight’s system better after his junior college transfer season.

C Kirk Haston, 6-10, So.
averaged 9.9 ppg and a team-high 6.5 rpg as a freshman.

G A.J. Guyton, 6-1, Sr.
Top shooter (40.6 percent 3-point shooter) who can create his own shot by penetrating.

G Michael Lewis, 6-1, Sr.
Steady playmaker (147 assists to 68 turnovers) and defender.

Top guy off the bench
G Dane Fife, 6-4, So.,
McDonald’s All-American could be poised for a breakthrough year after tough freshman season (2.1 ppg).
Key Newcomer
F Jeffrey Newton, 6-9,
Will provide needed help in frontcourt.
Key Games
Nov. 26 vs. Temple
Dec. 4 vs. Kentucky
Dec. 21 vs. North Carolina
Feb. 29 vs. Purdue
Outlook
The Hoosiers suffered severe blows when they learned F George Leach and Kei Madison would not play be academically eligible this season. Madison went to a junior college. Those losses leave the Hoosiers with a painfully thin frontcourt. The biggest blow to IU was G Luke Recker’s (team-high 16.1 ppg) decision to transfer to Arizona. This team might be able to go only as far as Guyton can take them.
