Northwestern
1998-99 record
15-14, 6-10 Big Ten, lost to DePaul in NIT first round
Coach
Kevin O'Neill, 25-31 (2 years at Northwestern), 147-140 overall (10 years)
Projected starting lineup
F Steve Lepore, 6-5, So.
Solid shooter should benefit from experience on summer U.S. Junior World team.

F Tavaras Hardy, 6-8, So.
Starter in all 29 games last season, he'll have to improve his scoring (6.9 ppg).

C Aron Molnar, 6-11, Sr.
Made 59.7 percent of his shots (37-for-62) in 14.4 minutes per game.

G Ben Johnson, 6-3, Fr.
Perhaps the best of a solid class of newcomers.

G David Newman, 5-11, So.
Shot just 33.7 percent from the field as freshman starter.

Top guy off the bench
F Brody Deren, 6-7, Fr.,
Plano, Texas native should push forwards for a starting spot.
Key Newcomer
F Jason Burke, 6-6, Fr.,
Also from Plano, Blake can play forward or guard.
Key Games
Nov. 26 vs. Evansville
Dec. 29 at Southern California
Dec. 22at Michigan State
Jan. 29 vs. Michigan State
Outlook
Northwestern will badly miss departed sixth-year senior Evan Eschmeyer, their top scorer, rebounder and leader. Ten players are freshmen or sophomores. One thing is for certain, the Wildcats will exhibit good fundamentals under O'Neill. Northwestern led the Big Ten in field goal percentage defense (.373) and 3-point field goal percentage defense (.306) and was second in scoring defense (57.1) last season.
