Oregon State
1998-99 record
13-14 overall, 7-11 Pac-10
Coach
Eddie Payne, 39-72 (4 years at Oregon State); 198-181 overall
Projected starting lineup
G Deaundra Tanner, 6-2, Jr.
Role being redefined for Tanner, who will distribute more this year. Last year he was first-through-fourth option. An all-Pac-10 player.

G Adam Masten, 6-5, So.
Improved his quickness and strength to add to already solid defense.

C Jason Heide, 6-10, Jr.
Concluded year with a flourish, shooting 54 percent and becoming one of the conference's best players in the post.

F Josh Steinthal, 6-4, Jr.
Hit 24 of his last 46 three-pointers, hitting a school-record seven in one game vs. Arizona.

F Clifton Jones, 6-8, Sr.
One of the Pac-10's best rebounders, he can track down loose balls and convert inside.

Top guy off the bench
Brian Jackson, 6-9, Fr.
A.C. Green was the last forward from Oregon who was touted as much as Jackson. Can play inside or out.
Key Newcomer
Jimmie Haywood, 6-2, Seattle.
Speedy guard with nice touch could contribute immediately. He has pushed Tanner in practice.
Key Games
at Utah (Dec. 28). Can Beavers handle this kind of competition? Perhaps.
vs. Stanford (Jan. 13). Cardinal might find it rough in Corvallis.
Outlook
Beavers figure to finish in top half of the conference, perhaps even earn an NCAA bid. Even with so-so record, they were 12-2 at home and should keep Gill rocking this season. With Tanner and Heide, Beavers could be surprise of the Pac-10.
Beavers' 1999-00 schedule
