UCLA
1998-99 record
22-9 overall, 12-6 Pac-10 (lost to Detroit in NCAA first round)
Coach
Steve Lavin, 70-26 (3 years at UCLA)
Projected starting lineup
G Earl Watson, 6-1, Jr.
Back to his more comfortable position, he will fill it up and dish it off with the best this year.

G Ray Young, 6-3, So.
Shot over 40 percent from 3-point territory last year and is a defensive menace.

C Dan Gadzuric, 6-11, So.
Still has problems with tendinitis in knees, but is difficult to handle when healthy.

F JaRon Rush, 6-10, Sr.
As a freshman led UCLA in rebounding and also scored 11.4 points a game.

F Jerome Moiso, 6-10, So.
Long, agile player who can score, rebound and intimidate.

Top guy off the bench
G Jason Kapono, 6-7, Fr.
Lavin raves about this future All-American. "I'd be surprised if he isn't in the mix in a big way all season," Lavin said.
Key Newcomer
Kapano, Lakewood, Calif.
JC transfer may inherit Andre Miller's point-guard job.
Key Games
vs. Gonzaga (Dec. 11). Nice non-conference test against team that surprised in NCAA tournament last year.
at North Carolina (Jan. 15). Another chance to measure up with elite on the other coast.
Outlook
Should contend for Pac-10 title. Bruins have youngest team in school history, but they are talented and experienced nevertheless. "This team should be able to compete nationally," Lavin said. A trip to the Sweet Sixteen is not out of the question.
